Noteworthy Credentials

Enrolled Actuary (EA)

Actuaries Unlimited has 10 Enrolled Actuaries on staff. Enrolled Actuaries are federally licensed under ERISA and are the only professionals authorized to sign and certify the actuarial valuation for defined benefit and cash balance plans. Without one, a plan cannot be legally certified. There are approximately 3,400 active Enrolled Actuaries in the entire United States.

The Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries (JBEA) is a federal body established by ERISA and jointly administered by the IRS and the Department of Labor. It sets the examination standards, enrollment requirements, and ongoing continuing education obligations for all actuaries practicing under ERISA. For our clients, that means the expertise overseeing your plan is verified by the federal government and required to stay current.

Noteworthy Credentials

Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent (ERPA)

Actuaries Unlimited has 3 Enrolled Retirement Plan Agents on staff. The IRS permanently closed enrollment to new ERPAs in 2016, meaning the designation can no longer be earned. As current ERPAs retire or leave the field, there are no new ones to replace them. Our ERPAs are authorized to represent clients directly before the IRS in matters including audits, Form 5500 issues, determination letter requests, and Voluntary Correction Program filings. When a regulatory matter arises, the people who know your plan best are the ones who can represent you with the IRS directly.

The ERPA designation was issued by the IRS to professionals who passed a comprehensive examination covering retirement plan law and IRS regulations under Circular 230. Active ERPAs are required to maintain their designation through ongoing continuing education, ensuring their knowledge stays current. For our clients, that means the team handling sensitive IRS matters on your behalf has demonstrated their competency to the IRS itself.
